A Gentle Way offers instruction in a variety of different yoga styles – from gentle and restorative to active hatha yoga.
All yoga styles offered at our center are listed below. We adapt each class to fit our student’s individual needs. As we get to know our regular students, classes continue to be customized for you!
We do not like putting “levels” on our classes, because we feel that it is important to mix up different teachers and styles of yoga for the best results. Think of each color as an important part of a well-rounded meal. Mix all colors (styles) you are physically able to do for a balanced yoga body, mind, and spirit practice. Always take a weekly class you love, and then challenge yourself with a more advanced class. Sometimes your “advanced” practice is slowing down, but for others it may be speeding up, or physically challenging yourself a bit more. Which is it for you?
Although each teacher has their own pace, training, and flavor, below is a general guideline for class styles and levels.

BLUE CLASSES: Learn to do yoga safely for your body.
Mild-Moderate (light blue): All abilities welcome! Our easiest level of modified-to-classical Hatha Yoga. Move safely and joyfully using props when needed. Play with different yoga poses and customize them for your body.
Moderate (blue): Students should be able to be on their hands and knees. Practice at your own pace as we move slowly and safely through a variety of traditional seated, standing, balance, floor poses and breathing techniques.
Moderate-Active (dark blue): Students should be able to be on their hands and knees and transition smoothly from floor to standing. Practicing “flowing” from pose to pose with joy and ease. Easy, joyful, active movement.
BROWN CLASSES – Active: Induce heat, move and balance.
Active (brown): Beginner-intermediate active and strengthening asanas. For students who can easily move and transition from floor to knees, and standing poses.
GREEN CLASSES – Restore, relax, release, renew.
Restorative (green) Slow down with a restorative yoga practice. Your body is propped with bolsters or blankets, walls, and poses are held for long periods of time. Deep inner work.
PINK CLASSES – Slow, safe, effective healing techniques.
Very Gentle (pink) Very gentle healing movements and deep relaxation. Start here if you have body limitations, are new to taking care of your body, have back or hip challenges, cannot be on your knees, or carry major pain or stress in the body. This is a Level 1 class.
PURPLE CLASSES – Yoga for your Back, Hips, Spine, and Mind.
Gentle and Traditional (purple): MIMSY=Meditation in Movement Style Yoga.
Our specialty! Asana, philosophy, breath, and meditation 101. Simple, deceptively deep movements or poses that release tension from the spine, strengthen the inner core, stretch and twist us every which way.
