Choosing the right classes for your needs is important when you are new yoga student. In our Beginning Yoga for Newcomers’ Workshop students will begin to prepare for weekly group yoga classes. The workshop will also help you determine if you need a private yoga session, or if you are ready to get started in open yoga classes, or weekend workshops.
Watch or participate in many poses. Learn about our many props and how to use them properly to take poses deeper and make them more enjoyable. Walk away with handouts and information on the many benefits of yoga for physical and emotional health.

“Several years into owning my San Diego Yoga Center I created a monthly “Newcomers Workshop” that introduces students to our Studio, all of our yoga props, and different styles of yoga poses, and classes offered at A Gentle Way.
Since our Studio is quite unique in the styles of yoga we teach, this is a great workshop not only for newbies, but also for students coming from other styles of yoga. It is the only place you can sit and watch a pose (asana) without having to try it yourself.
Holding this workshop was one of the best decisions I ever made, not only for our Center, but also for students new to Yoga, and for our teachers.
Many times your friend who loves yoga will drag you to her class, but it may be too hard, too easy, too long – not the best first experience for you. These workshops are a wonderful way to get new students to see and understand what yoga at A Gentle Way is all about, and to walk out knowing what classes (levels and styles, and teachers) will be best for them.
Newcomers Workshops are a great way to meet other students, new to yoga, like you – just beginning a practice – and make instant friends that you will recognize in class. The friendships I have seen grow over the years is so much fun to watch.
Yoga is much more than just physical movement. It is about community, fellowship with others who are on a positive road to physical and emotional growth just like you.
Our Staff Teachers get time with you at these Workshops to meet you, hear your health story, listen to your special needs, and hear your story. This helps us teach specialized group classes to the unique group of students who enter our classes each week, unlike many other yoga Centers who teach standard yoga routines.
Newcomers Workshops are typically held on the third Saturday afternoon of each month. We have a limited number of spots available each month, so reservations and prepayment is required. Cost is $25 per person. Students who are already Members at A Gentle Way can attend for free if they bring a paid guest, so if you are being bugged by one of our Members to get started at AGW, tell them to come with you to this workshop to support you, and maybe even experience something new!

Kristin Akerele joined A Gentle Way after completing her 200hr Yoga Alliance training with Pilgrimage of the Heart Yoga in San Diego, Ca. Kristin loves teaching and sharing the gift of yoga with her students and helping them discover their true selves through the poses and their breath. She also enjoys incorporating meditation and yoga philosophy in her classes. She teaches a wide range of classes from Gentle to Active Flow and encourages students to slow down and feel – always listening to their bodies. Learning and sharing yoga is a lifelong journey for her. Kristin Akerele is continues learning and sharing this lifelong journey of yoga while training in the 300-Hr Advanced Teacher Training Program at A Gentle Way.
