MIMSY Meditation in Movement Style Yoga®
A Softer Side of Yoga
MIMSY Meditation in Movement Style Yoga® is the unique trademarked style yoga by A Gentle Way Yoga’s Founder, Lanita Varshell. Somewhere between very slow, long-held supported restorative asanas, quiet seated crossed legged meditation, and traditional Hatha asana…there is a unique and wonderful place to begin or enhance your yoga practice that is joyful, healing, highly effective, and doable for 95% of the population. Lanita calls this (MIMSY) Meditation in Movement Style Yoga and she has been teaching this healing style of yoga to students since 1996.
MIMSY Meditation in Movement Style Yoga® is unique in that even though it always begins with specific relaxation techniques to release tension away from the spine and shift students into a deeper level of consciousness, each class can be customized based on each practitioners needs.
MIMSY Meditation in Movement Style Yoga® can be practiced at home with great results, with a group for an even more profound experience, or in 1-on-1 private sessions for deep healing.
MIMSY Meditation in Movement Style Yoga® can be a very easy beginning level yoga practice for some, and an advanced yoga practice for others. It looks like a very simple practice, but is deceptively deep.
Here are just a few types of people that MIMSY has had a profound impact on:
The busy, over-worked, over-obligated person. You already take care of your body on a physical level, perhaps even a rigorous or regular hatha yoga practice, but are still in search of something more. MIMSY may become your most advanced form of practice, as it requires slowing down, closing the eyes; and moving the focus inward. It is advanced in that you are working on your mind more than your body, and your mind may have a hard time accepting the fact that so much relaxation can go so deep and be so beneficial. It does not feel like you are doing much physically, but there are hundreds of subtle moves throughout the class to open, stretch, and balance the mind and body. MIMSY – Meditation in Movement Style Yoga works up through the chakras, the subtle bodies’ energy centers; allowing you to truly experience your body, mind, spirit self.
For the out of shape – never taken care of themselves to begin with person, or those returning to taking care of themselves, MIMSY Meditation in Movement Style Yoga® is true yoga and gentle movement that is a safe, highly effective way to begin, or return to a yoga practice. It is a way of beginning to show up for yourself – finally – or again. Beginning to move in a non-harming way that will make the body happy about what you are doing and not resentful or sore. MIMSY may be the only style of yoga you will ever need, or it may be just a door for you to move on to different, more traditional styles, or more physical levels of yoga practice.
For those suffering with pain, life-threatening, or debilitating illness, such as cancer, aids, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and more, this loving form of yoga has proven to be deeply self-healing and calming for those who are suffering.
This month Lanita will be offering MIMSY® Foundation Asanas and Philosophy #1 and MIMSY Meditation in Movement Style Yoga® Level 1 Foundations Training in Mount Shasta, June 2017. She is also scheduled to teach a MIMSY Meditation in Movement Style Yoga® Retreat at Feathered Pipe Ranch in Helena, Montana in September of 2018.
What a few of our students say about MIMSY:
Kathlyn Hyatt Stewart., MS, 200-RYT -(Jan 07 2018)
“Dear Lanita, I just wanted to share my impressions of my first MIMSY class with you. Before going in, I couldn’t imagine what we’d possibly do that would fill up 2 hours…but the time flew by! The only way I can describe the class is like a “massage for the body & soul.” Not only did we work with our breath to create mindfulness and a deep sense of body connection and appreciation, but we gently stretched from the inside and let our hands connect with the outside of each body area, really developing an awareness of what muscles were asking for what movement (or stillness) today.. I LOVE that this class really encourages you to “listen to your body”–so many teachers in regular classes just say this, but still subtly direct you into going deeper or working harder…this was all about Honoring your body exactly where it is today, without judgment! and showing it some loving-kindness. What a wonderful treat for mind, body and soul!”
Doris – 88 years young – Terminal cancer – (2008)
“How do I thank you for taking the pain away from my body? Even when it comes back, you have taught me how to stay in joy!”
John – Retired Psychologist (2011)
“I have practiced yoga and meditation for years, but what I love about Lanita’s classes is the way she teaches in levels. You are moving and meditating at the same time. You are given permission NOT to push yourself, and that is where the real magic of this style comes in.”
Bonnie – Cancer Survivor (2012)
“A Gentle Way is a very wonderful and renewing place. The first time I spent time here I left feeling as though I was walking on air, light, free, and unstressed. My weekly “Meditation in Movement Style” classes have helped me shed baggage that I had been carrying around causing me to distort things. It has taught me how to “live in the moment,” not just when I am at the Center, but even when I am not. I just love my class, and I love Lanita. She is a very special person.”
Gary-Middle-aged Business Owner (2010)
“ I resisted coming with my wife for years…Now I look forward to it every week.
It takes such stress out of my body. Tears start falling from my eyes when I lie down and relax. I now know it is so healthy for my heart. I not ashamed to say now that I come here to cry, I come here to release hidden stress, and I feel great each time I leave our Monday classes.”
Vanessa – 30’s – Super-Size Student (2013)
“Lanita, Thanks so much for your support! I love being in your studio….it always seems to set my mind in a place of calm and clarity where I can spend time with myself in a positive and self-loving way. I know the benefits of yoga are changing my life’s journey and expanding my outlook and perspective from every angle of my being and there are no words that can express my deep gratitude for you and your unique style of yoga. Continue to be inspired as you have inspired myself and others!”
Carol Briskin – Polarity Therapist, 2016
“When I first arrived at A Gentle Way Yoga, I had been in non-stop pain for eight months, due to a torn achilles tendon and ensuing complications in my legs. Not only did I immediately feel a sense of welcome and safety in the very first class, but after only two weeks of consistent classes, I had learned to relax so deeply in my body that the pain was down by 80%! Your MIMSY work was the bridge between being injured and afraid to hurt myself again, to feeling the confidence to enter a more mainstream class and cultivate a full time yoga practice. I can now attend yoga classes here in Scottsdale and enjoy others styles and teachers. Thank you for teaching me how to listen to my body, and make yoga work for me. Lanita has truly created an oasis of healing here, and I am so grateful to have found this community. Thanks you so very much!”
Sheila – Retired Administrator and Teacher, 2008
I have taken many teachers classes now after initialing beginning my yoga practice with you, but I still really like attending your classes. By attending consistently, I get to see what even your staff teachers here don’t see – the way you teach who shows up – much more than just the pose. I think a lot of teachers don’t even realize how wide your teaching range is, or how very deep gentle yoga really is.”
A message from Lanita Varshell, Founder of MIMSY and A Gentle Way Yoga
Not only has it transformed my life and health, but I have gotten to witness what a difference it has made in hundreds of our students lives, health, and outlook on life. When students find a form of self-care that they really enjoy, life is an entirely different experience than what many of us were taught that it should be, and miracles present themselves to us every day.
