A Gentle Way offers instruction in a variety of different yoga styles – from gentle and restorative to active hatha yoga.
All yoga styles offered at our center are listed below. We adapt each class to fit our student’s individual needs. As we get to know our regular students, classes continue to be customized for you!
We do not like putting “levels” on our yoga styles and classes, because we feel that it is important to mix up different teachers and styles of yoga for the best results. Think of each color as an important part of a well-rounded meal. Mix all colors (styles) you are physically able to do for a balanced yoga body, mind, and spirit practice. Always take a weekly class you love, and then challenge yourself with a more advanced class. Sometimes your “advanced” practice is slowing down, but for others it may be speeding up, or physically challenging yourself a bit more. Which is it for you?
Although each of our teachers at A Gentle Way has their own pace, training, and flavor, below is a general guideline for class styles and levels.

Yoga Styles Include:
PINK classes are unique to our Center. This style stems from Meditation in Movement Style Yoga MIMSY(R), our founders trademarked style. Very gentle healing move- ments, breath, deep relaxation and meditation. Being on your knees is never required. We offer both chair and floor classes in this style.
This style stems from Meditation in Movement Style Yoga MIMSY(R), our founders trademarked style. Classes always begin with relaxation techniques that take into the energy of “Meditation in Movement.” Multi-level asanas doable for most are added, along with sound, breath, or longer relaxation or meditation time. These classes are yoga for your back, hips, neck, spine and mind.
Mild-Moderate (light blue): Our easiest level of modified to classical Hatha Yoga. Modifications are always offered first, or poses are deconstructed for safer practice and maximum benefit. All abilities welcome – even advanced students will discover new things about their bodies in this style. Being on your knees is never required.
Moderate (blue):Practice at your own pace as we move slowly and safely through a variety of classical seated, standing, balance, floor poses and breathing techniques. Poses on hands and knees sometimes included. Teachers will help modify poses for students if needed.
Moderate-Active (dark blue): These classes begin to pick up the pace a bit without scaring new students away. Students should be able to be on their hands and knees and transition smoothly from floor to standing. Joyful, more active movement.
These classes would be similar to a LEVEL 1-2 class at most other Studios, but they are the most active or physical of all our classes. Beginner-intermediate asanas that strengthen, balance and stretch your body and mind. Students should be able to easily transition from floor, to knees, stomach, and standing poses.
Restorative Yoga – Your body is propped with bolsters, blankets, walls, or chairs so it feels like you are not actively stretching or opening but deep breath and inner work is taking place. Poses are held for 2-15 minutes. Quieter practice and longer holding makes this class an advanced practice, and may not be suitable for all. Students should be able to do PINK classes easily before attending.
